In February 2016, I watched the final episode of the hit animated tv series Gravity Falls. I was taken aback by how emotional characters on a screen could make me feel. From then on I started to create my own characters and storyline. With the help of my best friend Marley Melrose (an Atlanta based photographer), The Newspaper Club was born.
Taken straight from the sketchbook, this is the first character design that I did of the main character, Leland Parks. The story starts with her joining River Wells Boarding School after being bullied at her previous high school. (2018)
Edwin Joyce, upon noticing her childhood best friends struggles, persuades Leland to come to RWBS. There, Edwin introduces her to everyone. (2018)

Once settled in to the school, Leland and her roommates (Edwin, Bella, and Autumn) are informed of the school’s new rule.
All students must be involved in a club
Upon hearing the news, the friends conspire a way to get out of club work and activities. They decide on The Newspaper Club. There were zero members in the club, and zero readers of the school paper.

Feelings fluctuate as does the club’s popularity, but at the end of the day, The Newspaper Club’s members continue to learn that friendship is special and that it is to be maintained always.
